Man-in-the-woods

Synopsis

Documentary|Sweden

In ”Man in woods” we follow Tobias who leaves everyday life to live alone in the wilderness of northern Sweden in a self-built wind shelter. What begins as a simple desire to disconnect from technology and soak up the tranquility, turns out to be an escape from society’s labels and expectations.

During the journey, with nature as their only company, they is confronted with their own doubts, fears and inner demons. They wrestle with concepts such as privilege, climate change and their own identity. Nature’s beauty and uncertainty serve as a mirror for these inner struggles.

By diving deep into their own thoughts and feelings with the help of a diary, and contrasting these with the raw, inhospitable yet beautiful nature around them, they realizes that true capability is not just about physical survival. Real capability comes from understanding and accepting one’s place in the world, and from realizing one’s responsibility to both oneself and the planet we live on.

Mannen i skogen is a counter-reaction to the trend of creating content where nature is seen as something challenging and inhospitable. A place that only has room for macho culture. This introspective documentary explores the human soul, our relationship with nature, and shows how important self-acceptance is in the pursuit of meaning and purpose.
