Vulnerability: The Theme 2018

Vulnerability: The Theme 2018

This year's theme is "Vulnerability". It can mean many different things. It can be economic uncertainty, to live with one's own or somebody else's drug abuse, domestic violence, bullying in school, discrimination of minorities, and more. We are going to show a few films related to this, and hold debates and discussions.

7333 Sekunder Johanna

7333 Sekunder Johanna is a film about Johanna, who fights to divorce her husband who refuses and instead subjects her to psychological and financial violence. The film is, as the title says, 7333 seconds long, and is filmed in one take. It is Anette Skåhlberg's debut as director and actress in a feature.

Trädgårdsgatan

Trädgårdsgatan (Garden Lane) is a Swedish feature film about a family and the parents' drug abuse, and how the children, Eric and Elin, experienced this. Eric and Elin meet as adults and remember when they met for the first time. Their parents abused drugs, but for a few months one summer they lived together as a family. How has this affected them? They seem to have different views on how things were.

Girls From Earth

Girls from Earth is a powerful documentary exploring the impact of Female Genital Mutilation / Cutting (FGM/C). Through the film, we follow a 16-year-old European girl who builds a friendship with a 15-year-old African girl. Their narrative allows the viewer to discover how a young girl lives in an environment where circumcision and early marriage are part of her tradition. And how, by their own will, some of these girls will first decide to reject FGM and then bring support to the ones who couldn’t.
